What is osteopathic manipulation?

Osteopathic manipulation, or OMT, is hands-on care. It involves using the hands to diagnose, treat, and prevent illness or injury. Using OMT, your osteopathic physician will move your muscles and joints using techniques including stretching, gentle pressure and resistance.

What is manipulation therapy?

Manipulation therapy is a physical treatment primarily used by physiotherapists, occupational therapists, chiropractors, osteopaths, and osteopathic physicians to treat musculoskeletal pain and disability.

What is a D.O.?

Doctors of osteopathic medicine (D.O.s) are fully licensed physicians. They provide a full range of services from prescribing drugs to performing surgery, and they use the most up-to-date medical tools. But D.O.s offer something special – their unique approach to patient care.

The philosophy and science of osteopathy are based upon the following four principles:

  • Structure and Function are Interrelated

  • The Body is a Single Dynamic Unit of Function

  • The Body Possesses Self-Regulatory and Self-Healing Mechanisms

  • Rational Treatment is Based on Applying These Principles
